Additional information

This output consists of three reference articles--'Ibn Taymiyya' (pp. 824-878), 'Ibn al-Hajj al-'Abdari' (pp. 893-896) and 'Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyya' (pp. 989-1002)--that were commissioned together and published in one volume. These articles draw together the results of previously scattered studies, translations, and Arabic editions into new syntheses that constitute the most extensive and thorough reference articles available on the topics in question and are intended to provide the essential foundations for further research. The research for these articles was carried out in Beirut, Nottingham and Oxford over a period of three years and also required travel to the Harvard University library in Boston to obtain and read obscure sources. In addition to critical assessment of previous research literature in western languages and Arabic, the research process involved surveying all of the Arabic source material and reading portions of it closely in order to address outstanding questions and provide new interpretations.
