Child Adoption: the challenges presented by the plural legal systems of South Pacific island states
This article makes an important contribution to the wider international debate on inter-country and in-country child adoption, focussing on the particular problems and challenges that might be encountered in plural legal systems, and states with weak central governemnts and limited resources, by drawing on examples from the South Pacific. The context of the case-studies highlights the importance of considering the experiences of least developed and developing countries in formulating and trying to make effective international instruments to safeguard children as well as raising questions about the appropriateness of certain models.
