Sponsored by the Norwegian Research Council through the Center for Ships and Ocean Structures at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) this work provides a novel numerical approach for problems of reliability of structures subjected to stochastic parametric and external excitations. Typical examples of such systems include offshore and moored systems, MEMs, robotics, etc. The numerical method can potentially provide design engineers with a methodology to help predict the system reliability, namely estimating the mean time before the system reaches its critical value. The paper was invited to International_Symposium_of_Theoretical_and_Applied_Mechanics on Nonlinear and Stochastic Dynamics and Control, China, 2010 (http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/bfm%3A978-94-007-0732-0%2F1.pdf).
