Additional information

This work was sponsored by the Radiocommunications Agency (latterly Ofcom) in order to improve the reliability of UHF propagation predictions. The article reports on our long-term over-sea empirical study on transhorizon propagation, addressing a critical shortage of information in this area. Empirical limits to the use of the widely used Paulus Jeske model of the evaporation duct are established, and gives reliable long-term correlations between weather and radio propagation loss. Results are applicable to radio, TV and telephony.
