Edmund Spenser: A Life is the first biography of Spenser since 1945. The book is based on extensive archival and field research, and wide reading of relevant work in the history of education; military history; Irish history; literary history; theology and ecclesiology; philosophy, and other relevant subjects. It is the product of over a decade’s research and has been supported by major grants from The British Academy (BARDA), Leverhulme (Research Fellowship) as well as small grants from the British Academy and the University of Sussex.
