Buyers' Guide: Continuous positive airway pressure for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome: CEP10054
This report provides design guidance for suppliers to improve the design of products for a variety of sleep disorders whilst also providing the necessary education for procurement professionals to make informed equipment choices. Prior to this publication, procurement prioritised maximising technical features and minimising cost, without consideration for design effectiveness or usability. This research clearly identifies the mismatch between users and the technology and provides unique information for procurement professionals to make more informed purchasing decisions and hence provide better value.
The work was sponsored by the NHS through their Purchasing and Supply Agency and provides research-based guidelines for evidence-based purchasing through an improved understanding of user needs, design priorities and design solutions. Published as an NHS resource, this document is available to all interested parties and addresses a knowledge base which previously was unavailable. The report has been peer reviewed both within and outside of the NHS and forms part of the current National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) archive to support the Medical Technology Evaluation Pathway, which is the gold standard for technology in the NHS.
