Double-weighted statement

This book (text 117,000 + notes 41,000 words; 80+% previously unpublished) equates in research effort and intellectual range to at least 4 journal articles. The project is based on 15+ years of full-time research and thought. It is the most ambitious and wide-ranging new interpretation of the history of English (and western) sexual attitudes since the 1970s. It makes substantive contributions to (and seeks to integrate) social, intellectual, legal, literary, artistic, and gender history. It involved a huge amount of research in 30+ archives, libraries, museums, and record offices across the British Isles, in Europe, and North America.
