Additional information

The significance of the work is that it proposes a novel class of algorithms for blind characterisation of thermocouple-probes used for measuring rapid temperature changes in harsh environments. The methods, which, unlike existing algorithms, consider the problem in a rigorous system identification framework that addresses issues of biased estimation, provide substantial performance gains over existing approaches to this challenging problem. The algorithms have been successfully applied at QUB to transient exhaust temperature measurement in engines and have also been investigated by researchers at Oxford University and Technische Universitat Darmstadt - http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.conengprac.2009.11.008.
