Two-dimensional growth of SrTiO3 thin films on (001) MgO substrates using pulsed laser deposition and reflection high energy electron diffraction
Original research work against the standard thinking of thin film growth, showing that a method for forcing two-dimensional growth could be extended to film/substrate combinations with a lattice mismatch eight times larger than previously thought. This advance required film deposition with submonolayer precision; an unusually high degree of control. This publication in a premier applied physics journal began with collaboration at Twente University and led to a published collaboration with Ohio State University. The work has enabled funding under the NATO Science for Peace scheme, with partners in Ukraine and Slovenia.
