<15> We describe the extraction of patient centric data from multiple heterogeneous hospital information systems and build an operational data store to enable the collection of data on 2000 patients with prostate cancer. Using this, we have created authoritative clinical e-pathways for analysis of prostate cancer from routinely collected data. This has enabled important clinical research previously not possible, which is gaining momentum in medical informatics (e.g. Wakamiya and Yamauchi 2009; Huang et al 2012).
