Additional information

This book was one output of the AHRC Project “Fashioning Diaspora Space” for which Breward was co-applicant and V+A Museum lead. This project sought to make inventive connections between literatures about textile manufacturing, South Asian - European trade and consumption, and studies of fashion cultures, contributing to our understanding of an under-represented aspect of Britain’s cultural heritage. The project brought together historians, geographers, ethnographers, curators, artists, photographers and designers on a three-year long analysis of relevant Museum collections, field work in India, archival and ethnographical research. Findings were tested through appropriate peer-review and engagement with British Asian community groups.
