Additional information

First in situ verification on the precipitation route leading to the formation of the ultrafine 20nm precipitates that strengthen Ti5553 – the new 1.4GPa landing gear alloy used by Dowty and Timet on the B787, A380 and A350. Early demonstration of the benefit of rapid 8Hz in situ synchrotron diffraction at ESRF, backed by TEM. Followed up by Ohio State 2012 Phys. Rev.Lett. on underlying physics, and groups in Queensland, Toronto, Delft, China. Laid foundation to give 2011 keynote at world Ti conference, for EPSRC Leadership fellowship EP/H004882/1, TSB project on Ti5553 w/ TiSiCs and Programme Grant EP/K034332/1.
