Additional information

This paper presents a novel methodology for the computation and management of smoke in tunnels. The paper received the 2012 Lloyds Science of Risk Award for the best technological contribution (http://www.lloyds.com/news-and-insight/news-and-features/lloyds-news/lloyds-news-2010/valuable-research-rewarded-with-science-of-risk-prize). It led to follow-on research projects by collaborator Prof Borchiellini, Politechnico di Torino (http://www.swas.polito.it/rubrica/scheda_pers.asp?vis_PROG=S&vis_did=&vis_pub=&vis_cv=&matricola=001872#prog) and has seen direct application to tunnel designs in: UK, (Peter Johnson, Arup); Denmark, (Paul Williams, Norman Disney and Young); New York, (Steven Wolin, Code Consultants Inc); and Chile (Orelvis González, DICTUC S.A.).
