Additional information

This journal issue resulted from several symposia in the Music and Machines research series, which I co-founded and co-organised with Prof. Sally-Jane Norman from 2005 to 2011. Participants were invited, and over several meetings, the profile of the issue was curated by us. I co-directed the content of the articles, and worked intensively with the authors so that their contributions complemented one another, resulting in a coherent and interconnected collection. Recent or about-to-complete PhD candidates Bell, Ferguson and Williams, supervised by me, were included. I co-authored the Introduction in addition to my own article ‘When Violins Were Trees’.
