Aircraft noise, overheating and poor air quality in classrooms in London Primary Schools
For the first time this research highlights the impacts arising from conflict between various comfort factors in UK primary schools located under flight paths. Data generated through field studies were validated using occupants’ perceptions about internal environmental conditions and were used to explore these conflicts. Results demonstrate the importance of selecting an appropriate means of ventilation specifically in noisy regions to balance the interaction between different comfort factors. Failure to achieve such a balance is likely to have a direct impact on the achievements of students and should therefore be of great concern for school designers and policy makers worldwide.
