The extended MSD method for predicting ground displacements, which is illustrated in this paper for foundations problems, has been extended by other researchers to braced-excavation problems. See Lam, S.Y., Bolton, M.D. (2011) Energy conservation as a principle underlying mobilizable strength design for deep excavations. ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering 137(11), 1062-1074. The authors work has been praised and acknowledged in the 52nd Rankine Lecture which was delivered by Professor Malcolm Bolton.
