Double-weighted statement

This is the first biography of Eugenie Schwarzwald in any language and covers her entire life span (1872-1940) in detail. As there is no 'Nachlass', the large amounts of previously unpublished material used were consulted in extremely disparate archives across many countries (primarily Austria, Germany, USA, Switzerland, Ukraine, Denmark and Hungary). Particular attention is paid to Schwarzwald’s hitherto unresearched early years spent in East Galicia, the Bukowina and at the University of Zurich, rendering unique the biography’s contribution to the study of German-Jewish culture and the origins of the Viennese fin de siècle.
