Nanocrystalline ruthenium oxide dispersed Few Layered Graphene (FLG) nanoflakes as supercapacitor electrodes
This Alberta / IIT Mumbai collaboration produced the first paper (initially funded by FP7 EU Design-IT and UKIERI British Council) to report superior electrochemical performance required in supercapacitors, fuel cells and electrochemical sensors, with a two fold increase in specific capacitance properties of RuO2 on vertically aligned Few Layer Graphene. The underpinning characterisation work has led to a set of projects (totalling £3m) with AVX Capacitors (J. McCarry 028 70344188 Kyocera) Ltd. This work which applies across a range of applications is producing large efficiencies (20% performance benefits) with nanoparticle approaches to capacitors.
