Additional information

The research underpinning this paper has been on-going for over 10 years, and has contributed to the development of the commercial product, Sybase IQ, and some associated data quality toolsets. The research reported here focused on data models for large-scale data warehousing, in particular binary models. This paper is important as it conclusively demonstrates that the on-going work on optimising relational databases for data warehousing fails to match the performance achieved by binary models.
