Additional information
This paper was the first to demonstrate the potential yields of hydrogen and methane from the semi-continuous fermentation of wheatfeed co-product from flour milling and was part-funded by the Carbon Trust. The predicted hydrogen and methane equivalent to 64 m3 and 264 m3 per tonne of wheatfeed respectively, led to further funded research by the Carbon Trust (LCIP-2002-7-39-1) in collaboration with Premier Foods Plc. From the analysis of results the low carbon fuel produce could meet twice the transport needs of the flour industry.
