Tunbridge planned, commissioned and co-edited this 471-page volume which includes 18 essays by international scholars. Tunbridge also co-wrote the Preface and contributed one chapter, with these individual inputs amounting to 5% of the main text. The volume grew from a 2006 conference funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada) and re-evaluates Schumann from four perspectives: politics, popular culture, analytical approaches and twentieth-century reception.
