Additional information

Active reduction of loads on a wind turbine is a design driver for large multi-MW wind turbines. This research paper describes a novel, high-performance approach to load reduction that is both simple and flexible. The research provides underpinning theory for the currently active UK patent application 0723620.1 and patent applications in other domains. A turbine OEM [commercial in confidence] has estimated the benefits to be equivalent to an energy cost reduction of approximately 5%. The technology is to be demonstrated, with the support of Department of Energy and Climate Change, the OEM and StrathControl plc [david.robb@strathcontrol.com].
