Significance of output:

This research, funded largely by EPSRC awards, develops a systematic and automated approach to the appraisal of new stations that has been applied to over 400 sites, building on previous research that had been applied to over 200 sites in the British Isles. The research has fed into the industry’s Passenger Demand Forecasting Handbook (Section B10 on New Services in version 5.1 (2013)) and has led to further research on flow based methods for the Association of Train Operating Companies (Tony.Magee@atoc.org). Aspects of this work have been presented to the Netherlands Institute for Transport Policy Analysis (Peter.Bakker@minienm.nl).
