Significance of output:

The compressive strength of composite materials is a critical design driver. Compressive failure in composites is generally caused by kinkbanding. Existing predictive models require input regarding the shear properties and the statistical fibre misalignment distribution. A novel method for measuring fibre misalignment is presented; called Fourier Transform Misalignment Analysis (FTMA). FTMA is more accurate, specimen preparation is easy, and it is faster and more robust than other existing methods. FTMA has been successively used in projects value GBP 8.5 mill supported by LM wind Power, Siemens Wind Power, the Danish Advanced Technology Foundation, EU FP7 and several international partners.
