Additional information
All manufacturing sites in the process industries are serviced by utilities systems for the provision of heat and power, which are on most sites the largest energy consumer. This paper is significant in that it presents for the first time an approach to avoid unnecessary over design for reliability, avoiding excessive capital and operating costs. The approach has been applied to a study carried out on behalf of BP on the optimisation of utility systems for new coal to liquids process technology.
