This research, funded by the Institute for Advanced Motorists (IAM £120k), employed a unique motorcycle simulator developed by Stedmon (PI). A novel integrated experimental paradigm investigated rider behaviour with eight separate studies within a single approach. For the first time, simulation data demonstrated the vulnerabilities of novice and experienced riders over advanced trained riders. The findings were published by the IAM, launched at one of the world's three major motorcycle shows, incorporated into IAM training and led to Stedmon briefing the Australian Parliament of Victoria's Official Inquiry into Motorcycle Safety.
