SIGNIFICANCE

This first issue of Architecture Studies, called 'Words, Buildings and Drawings', stems from the first international conference of the Forum of Contemporary Architectural Theories, held in Nanjing and Shanghai in 2010. The conference focused on the themes of two seminal books: Adrian Forty’s Words and Buildings: A Vocabulary of Modern Architecture and Robin Evans’ Translations from Drawing to Building and Other Essays. Forty’s opening keynote was an extension and critical rethinking of Words and Buildings. The volume contains his leading essay ‘Architectural Description: Fact or Fiction?’ as well as another piece, ‘Rights and Wrongs of Translation'.
