This paper shadows Rio plus 20, June 2012, which highlights the pressing need to empower women and mainstream gender into policy and legal and institutional frameworks, especially in regard to environmental management.

This article was welcomed by the United Nations Development Programme as a “best practice example”and also by the United Nations supported Huairou Commission and the GROOTS International NGO Community. In addition, the National Coordinator, Global Environment Facility [GEF] Small Grants Programme [SGP] India and the Ministry of Environment and Forests India[ GEF SGP India Committee] have positively received the paper.
