Additional information

This work demonstrated the robustness of the software to determine stress intensity factors. Confidence was gained to further develop this software to incorporate functions to determine T-stresses, and the resulting program is now in regular use at the Universities of Sheffield and Liverpool for fracture mechanics investigations of novel materials (e.g. toughened polymers for Cytec (contact details available). The subsequent research on the fatigue failure of fibre metal laminates using the technique in this paper is being considered for potential applications by Airbus. (contact: R&T Manager for Structures Test, Airbus).
