Additional information

During industrial extrusion of polyolefin tapes there is an interdependence of processing parameters on the final crystalline morphology that is not fully understood. Small-angle X-ray scattering is used as an in-line monitoring technique where the structure development of the polymer was directly related to the applied stress, temperature and cross-sectional area during the real-time extrusion process. A comprehensive data set is presented giving a parametric profile of crystalline structure, crystallinity and orientation with haul-off speed and distance down the extruded tape-line for polyethylene. showing how process parameter interactions give structures varying from highly oriented lamellar stacks to a shish-kebab structure.
