Additional information

Collaborating with a Russian group we demonstrated how to capture and manipulate quantum information in large-size, long-lived atom systems for the development of new generations of quantum computing. We show how lasers can be used to excite a population of atoms into a single state, significantly advancing previous (2008) research, with significant efficiency benefits for logic operations. Our research generated EPSRC 'bright ideas' funding for the follow on phase, which will involve industrial collaboration.
