Additional information

Fluidised bed granulation is a difficult process to design and operate, due in large part to the lack of understanding of the process of granule formation and growth. This paper focusses on granule nucleation, and defines the steps of distribution nucleation. A new parameter (the particle coating number) is derived to predict particle coating, and is validated experimentally. Using this parameter, the particle fractional coating can be predicted using simple known operating parameters. This parameter has great potential to improve the modelling and design of fluidised bed coating and granulation processes.
