Drum-mate : interaction dynamics and gestures in human–humanoid drumming experiments
<20> Human-Robot Interaction studies (48 participants) on interaction kinesics in a drumming scenario. Results show how the robot’s behaviour influences participants' task performance as well as participants’ perceptions of the game experience. Comparisons of behavioural and questionnaire data showed inconsistencies in how people perceive and judge an interaction and their actual task performance, highlighting the need of behavioural data supplementing questionnaires (the predominant tool in HRI research). This work has significantly influenced HRI studies in the EU projects LIREC (methodologically, in terms of balancing questionnaire and behavioural data) and I-Talk (studying the dynamics of social interaction for robot language learning).
