Additional information

This volume was born out of a 2005 conference, but it is not a conference-volume. Of the twenty speakers, four were chosen to contribute and editorial energies expended on capitalizing on discussion and securing the cast-list to produce a challenging, coherent volume. Only then did I write my chapter ‘Epic in the Round’. In addition, I co-wrote the opening of the introduction and was single author of its ‘Visualising Epic’ section. Renewed interest in ‘Flavian epic’ and in ‘art and text’ makes this book timely. It uses the visual in innovatory ways to ask what is peculiar about

epic genre.
