Significance of output:
A better understanding of separation bubbles is needed for prediction of the maximum lift coefficient of wings. The work presented in this paper was originally part of a Defence and Aerospace Research Partnership (DARP) project funded by the then DTI, which aimed to understand the aerodynamics and aeroacoustics of airfoils. The Osborne Reynolds prize was awarded based on a presentation of this work by PhD student Lloyd Jones.
