Additional information

<29>For pitch collections such as chords, scales and melodies, numerous metrics (distance measures) have been proposed, including voice-leading, psychoacoustic, and pitch and interval class distances. This paper is the first to bind these different measures into a single mathematical and conceptual framework. The work provides a new way of modelling pitch perception, with improved ecological validity. The generality of our approach was exploited in a subsequent paper in the Journal of Mathematics and Music (Oct 2012, http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/17459737.2012.740574) in analysing the note association paradigms in different folk music cultures. The author uses a simplified version of spectral pitch similarity.
