Inertial thin film flow on planar surfaces featuring topography
Research funded by EU Marie Curie Initial Training Network grant ESTER: MEST-CT-2005-020599. Develops a new model for 3-D free-surface flows which can account for the important effects of inertia, which can amplify free surface disturbances and initiate flow instability. Comprehensive validation against experimental and computational data shows this model is more accurate and of wider range of applicability than existing models. Work has subsequently been used on EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Secondment project with Food and Environmental Research Agency, York, to develop accurate models of pesticide flows on foliage (Richard.Glass@fera.gsi.gov.uk).
