Additional information

Moving fluids in very small channels usually requires driving the flow by electro-osmosis. This paper combines, for the first time, the lattice Boltzmann method for the hydrodynamics with the traditional solution procedures for the calculation of the electric double layer and ion concentration. The solution procedure is more complex than may be first perceived as there is a two way coupling between the electrokinetics and the hydrodynamics. The flow dictates the advection of ions, whilst the charge density modifies the body forces that appear in the hydrodynamics.
