Additional information

Computer support for creative design requires systems that demand less cognitive load from users so minimising interruptions to their creative flows. This paper reports experiments using gaze data from an eye tracker to support shape exploration in a two-dimensional vector-based sketch editor. Results indicate that gaze can be used as an indicator of designers’ attention and intention, and that eye tracking has significant potential as an interface which responds to designers’ visual interactions. This is a novel application of eye tracking technology and the research could change how designers interact with future generations of computational design systems.
