Additional information

First successful in-vitro measurement of polyethylene wear of patellofemoral joint replacement in multi-axis joint simulator. Multi-body dynamics simulation has enabled rig to be designed to replicate accurately kinematics of actual joint for first time and to produce wear patterns of similar form to explanted prostheses. Follow on work in collaboration with Simulation Solutions has led to development of unique six station patellofemoral knee simulator (contact: nick.eldred@simsol.co.uk). This has been applied in research studies supported by DePuy to determine the effect of different input kinematics and design on the wear of the patellar (contact: Dr G Isaac at gisaac@its.jnj.com).
