Additional information

The first paper to map tribo-chemical behaviour of materials tested under fretting conditions. The results are significant for the design and increased safety in exploitation of steam generator components in nuclear plants (verification contact: Helmi Attia, Helmi.Attia@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca). Fundamental work providing novel experimental method for prediction of wear accelerated due to corrosion under fretting by analysing passive film removal kinetics. Led directly to follow on research in bearings where the method is being used to measure resistance to fretting of selected ceramic materials as a part of Marie-Curie ITN Twin Site project between Leeds and SKF Netherlands (FP7, ref. 317334, €1.5m).
