Additional information

Multidisciplinary work from a new collaboration between Leeds Mechanical Engineering and Cambridge University under ESPRC Programme Grant EP/H018913/1, grant EP/F065019/1 and industry (FFEI Ltd, peter.walsh@ffei.co.uk). Describes a novel experimental rig allowing flow visualisation within droplets previously not possible. Presentation at the international 63rd Annual Meeting of American Physical Society's Division of Fluid Dynamics confirmed the leading nature of the system, which formed the basis for later experimental and computational work. The paper also describes and validates a new predictive lattice Boltzmann model including contact angle hysteresis. The work led to an industrial research position at Domino Ltd for Betton (Eleanor.Betton@domino-uk.com).
