Estimation of seismic loss for spatially distributed buildings
Quantitative and accurate seismic-loss estimation models are essential decision-making tools for seismic-risk mitigation. Paper develops rigorous new catastrophe-modelling philosophy for wood-frame structures, which incorporates spatial-correlation and probabilistic-vulnerability models. Work is specifically applied to Canada, and was incorporated into policy framework of Canadian National Committee for Earthquake Engineering (CANCEE) on which co-author Hong sits. Work led to Goda winning grant from Kajima Corporation (2010) and Philip Leverhulme Prize (2011) - one of only 5 awarded across whole of UK Engineering. Paper is in top 4% of most-cited in journal within REF period (Web of Science, 7/10/2013).
