Additional information

Detection and characterisation of defects in pipework is major challenge in petrochemical and other industries. Paper develops computationally-efficient method of modelling guided-wave scattering from defects in pipes. Directly led to successful EPSRC grant application (EP/G052069/1, £178k, 2009-12) supported by £90k from Shell, E-On and British Energy; without this capability it would not have been possible to propose forward modelling of scattering from large populations of pipe-defect morphologies. Technique is used in Imperial College NDT Group [contact: Prof. Cawley] who are acknowledged world-leaders in practical applications of guided-wave testing.
