Additional information

A journal publication associated with a prestigious invited lecture at American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Knee Society in 2009. New fundamental wear relationships for polyethylene in knee replacements are defined, which describe the effect of cross shear and contact area on wear. The research has led to the definition of distinctive low wear design solutions in mobile, fixed and partial knee replacements, which are now sold globally. Research was supported by EPSRC Platform grant EPF04387201 and subsequently applied in collaborative studies with DePuy (contact chardake@its.jnj.com).
