Additional information

This collaboration study between GU, UWS and three Belgium partners was trying to better understand the remarkable properties of sea urchin spine – a material attracting wide research interest. The internal spine heterogeneities, including chemical composition, crystallography and micro-mechanical properties, were studied and their functional implications discussed. The variations of mechanical properties at micro/nano-scale were reported for the first time.
