Additional information

This paper shows for the first time that significant greenhouse gas emissions can be saved - up to 95% compared to petrol - by producing bioethanol from waste in a novel gasification and fermentation process. This is significant given the drive to reduce carbon emissions and the need to switch away from food crops for fuel production. This work was in collaboration with Ineos and has helped to inform the Company on the environmental benefits of this process which in part influenced their decision to build first a pilot and then a full-scale plant in Florida (www.ineos.com/businesses/INEOS-Bio/Technology; www.ineos.com/en/businesses/INEOS-Bio/News).
