Additional information
This paper used a highly efficient `event-driven' simulation algorithm to study flows of dense and inelastic hard-sphere systems as a prototype for a sheared granular material. Simulation results are compared with predictions from kinetic theory. The work has been recognised by Vicente Garzo (University of Extremadura) as demonstrating that Enskog kinetic theories are very accurate at obtaining transport properties of granular media, even for dense and inelastic systems: see European Physical Journal E, vol. 29, pp. 261--240 (2009) and Physics of Fluids, vol. 25, article 043301 (2013).
