Additional information

This research was funded by EPSRC (GR/S59505/01) as part of a three year research network, FIDIC-NET, with Professor Ndekugri from Wolverhampton and Professor Green from Reading Universities. It involved international expert academics and practitioners in investigating the management of disputes in large international projects under the FIDIC family of contracts. The paper was the first to demonstrate the importance of providing realistic fee levels and of the balance between the levels of the appointment retainer for Dispute Adjudication Board members, (Dispute Review Boards in US and Canada). Through co-author Peter Chapman, Chair of the FIDIC Adjudication Advisory Panel, the research findings informed revisions of FIDIC guidance documents and procedures.
