This paper is an outcome from an EPSRC Challenging Engineering award (EP/G029768/1). Collaboration and PhD funding from Arup (P. Nedin) enabled direct access to recently completed hospital buildings. The paper describes the first direct comparison of bio-aerosol spatial deposition at room scale - previous work having used surrogates or laboratory scale. The paper has led to links with Dr Dancer, Consultant Microbiologist of the Lanarkshire NHS.
